Glenorchy Library And Online Access Centre
The Glenorchy Library + Online Access Centre offers free access to the equipment in its facility. Those who are new to computers or the internet will be warmly welcomed and assisted by Robyn Murfet our friendly Coordinator or a trained volunteer. Perhaps you would like to open an e-mail account or have access to the the vast resources available through the Internet, the opportunities are unlimited.
The Centre is equipped with 26 computers using Windows XP, black and colour printers, two scanners, a laminator and a digital camera. All computers have Internet access, and software includes the Microsoft Office suite, and Paint Shop Pro for image editing. There is no charge for use of the computers except for printing and consumables. The facilities are available to any member of the public, and a subscription or membership is not necessary. However usage is restricted to one hour per day per person. Pre-booking is not required, but a booking system is available if you wish to ensure that a computer is available at a particular time.
Services that are provided include classes in:
Setting up an email account with gmail and using email
Browsing and searching the Internet
Using a scanner
Simple word processing
Transferring images from your digital camera to your computer
The new training facility will allow for a wider range of courses so just pop in and fill out an expression of interest form telling us what you would like to learn.
The coordinator and team of more than 30 volunteers have a wide range of skills, and assistance with other applications may be available. If you have a particular interest, please ask and we will endeavour to help. Take time to call in when you next visit the library and meet the friendly team.
