Breastscreen Tasmania
Services
Provides free mammography screening for women over the age of 40 for the early detection of breast cancer. Tasmanian women have access to three Breast Screening Units - one each in Hobart and Launceston and a mobile unit visiting areas on the West, North West and East coasts. The service reminds women who have been screened when their two yearly mammogram is due, and sends out invitation letters to women aged 50-69.
The service also conducts assessment clinics, to which women with abnormalities detected through screening are recalled. Counsellors from BreastScreen talk with these women providing them with information and support. Co-ordinated by the Cancer Screening and Control Service (see separate record).
Cost
Breastscreen Tasmania is free to eligible women.
